I just love it that April Fool’s Day fell on Palm Sunday this year! I have never cared much for April Fool’s Day anyway because it seems that most jokes are done at someone else’s expense….with trickery being the goal. My children really aren’t characterized by finding humor at another’s expanse but on April Fool’s Day sometimes the temptation is just too great.
But not this year. This year today has been all about the start of Holy Week…the most holy of all weeks in the Christian year. This morning, as they waved their palm branches at Mass, they were completely caught up in Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem and his Via Dolorosa.
This week will be an incredibly important and powerful week in our family. The girls and I will be received into the Catholic Church on Saturday Evening at Easter Vigil. It will be a very late and long Mass since it can’t begin until after sundown – which in my part of the US is around 8:30 p.m. I expected to be excited on that day but didn’t expect this early in the week to be already feeling distracted by my excitement.
