Although not a typical experience for many on the road to Catholicism, my husband and I have been blessed with many faithful friends and family members who have continued to love us through this process. The longer we’re on this journey, the more I realize what a rare blessing relationships such as these are! Most of these friends are not Roman Catholic and have many questions or concerns about how we ended up here and how we resolved many of the issues about Catholicism that most Protestants find troubling. This blog is a place for me to open my heart about our journey and also a place to address how we came to embrace Roman Catholicism, despite its commonly misunderstand beliefs. Having a protestant evangelical background myself, it isn’t hard to understand the concerns of our protestant friends since I held those same criticisms most of my life. Try as I may, I have not been able to come up with a 2 or 3 sentence answer to the question of why we’re becoming Catholic. There is just no short answer. I’ll never claim to be a theologian, scholar or philosopher so you’ll need to extend a bit of grace my way as I attempt to explain our journey.
But I do this with the blessing of my husband and with the sincere hope that the Lord Jesus is glorified in what transpires here.
